What we release from our lips can either fortify our homes or wage war against them. Choose life. Words are never empty vessels; they are carriers of spirit, intention, and power. Scripture warns us that the tongue is a fire—capable of warming a house or burning it to the ground. In seasons of exhaustion or pain, it is easy to let harsh words fly. But God calls us to a higher standard: a gentle spirit that mirrors His own heart.
True gentleness is not weakness; it is strength under control. It is the divine restraint that chooses wisdom when the flesh demands a reaction. As Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, “A soft answer turneth away wrath.” Gentleness disarms; shouting only deepens the wound.
God is deeply concerned with our private conversations—how we speak to our spouses, our children, and within our walls. When we let our speech be “alway with grace” (Colossians 4:6), we shut the doors the enemy seeks to enter through reckless anger.
Remember, “out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh” (Luke 6:45). When we submit our tongues to the Lord, we invite His Spirit to soften our hearts. Today, let us pause and pray: “Lord, set a watch over my mouth.” Our homes don’t need louder voices; they need gentler ones. Because truly, “death and life are in the power of the tongue” (Proverbs 18:21).
Choose life!
