The Shepherds Heart and Hands great Challenge

Moving over a thousand pounds
of Muncie’s Homeless Encampment!

When we got news of Muncie’s Biggest Tent City having to move we were not surprised and yet shocked again about the short amount of time given. It’s not the first time Joseph Romero Jr have had to deal with short notices.

Pastor Romero of the Shepherds Heart and Hands Public Charity has had to deal with the challenges of America’s Homeless Encampments since 1991 way back in Tucson Arizona where 5 Acres of Homeless Encampment existed and no one was visiting them until Joseph felt the call to help these individuals.

with Just a small tribe of volunteers meeting on Saturday it was clear that we were on our own for today!

I kid you not, I felt that God was establishing something right here and now. Who could I count on? The Event was advertised to others, the city new about it, the non profit organizations knew. I even got a letter from the Police Social Service Officer who by the way played a part in getting us an extension from 7 days till the weekend. Also let me say right here, right now that we are not bad mouthing anyone. We appreciate everyone in our city who does their part in their field. but it was clear no one was feeling the part to join our meeting Saturday to help us begin the process of moving tent city.

Doris Westerman and her family brought trucks and trailers, one of my neighbors Joan came to help and express her desire to help us anyway she can. We had just about 5 of us in the mist of this crazy task ahead. Did I mention time was not on our side? We all had limited hours and challenges to see who can work and move this camp. So we got busy.

After our meeting and prayer we took off to Muncie’s Largest Tent City!

This camp wasn’t the largest due to the population but because of the accumulation of tents, bikes, coaches, and everything under the sun! This camp had wood burning stoves, full size beds, 3 to 5 room apartment style joint tent stuctures causing just one couple to be a major project, let alone 30 others.
